Ascend Church is nestled in the mountainous region of Boulder, Colorado with the intentions of creating an intriguing and useful building that will harmoniously seem absorbed by the mountains through the usage of modern elements and glazing that overlook one of Boulder's most highly trafficked rock climbing locations; the Flatirons. The purpose of the church is to appeal to adventurous people who may otherwise not find church to be an interesting lifestyle by incorporating elements of outdoor activities within the church's structure and design in order to ultimately utilize the building to break the threshold between the church and the intended demographic. In order to break the threshold, the design has been inspired by the elements of both refuge and connection that is often offered by ski lodges.

The design is influenced by the rugged Rocky Mountains and relative beauty that surrounds Boulder, Colorado to create warmth and security. The church will provide a valuable asset to the community without duplicating nearby businesses by staying open to the public throughout the week as a popular community working center . It will offer both working and meeting multipurpose spaces that will be occupied by pastoral staff in order to create community and intentional connection within the church.
